Duterte extends state of calamity due to pandemic until September 12, 2022

The Philippines has been in a state of calamity due to the pandemic since March 2020

President Rodrigo Duterte has extended the declaration of a nationwide state of calamity due to the COVID-19 pandemic until September 12, 2022.

“The number of COVID-19 positive cases and deaths continue to rise despite efforts and interventions to contain the same,” the President in issuing Proclamation No. 1218.

Duterte signed the proclamation on Friday, September 10, a day after the Philippines recorded 22,820 new COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day tally since the pandemic began.

The country has been in a state of calamity due to the pandemic since March 2020.
