Emergency disaster forces of Don Salvador Benedicto town in Negros Occidental rescued 20 visitors of a vacation home on Monday morning, October 11, Mayor Marxlen de la Cruz said.
De la Cruz said no one was hurt during the rescue.
A video on the town’s Facebook page showed Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Office members, led by Rodelio Famini, leading the visitors up a slope amid rain and heavy winds.
Several days of rain caused a landslide that destroyed the vacation home’s landing, the mayor said.
The MDRRMO said they were able to launch the rescue operation after the the establishment alerted the local government via messenger.
The local government warned homes and vacation homes in the province’s popular highland tourist destination to check the safety of structures, especially those situated near ridges and steep slopes. – Rappler.com
