Former presidential adviser for environmental protection Nereus “Neric” Acosta filed his certificate of candidacy for Bukidnon congressman at the Commission on Elections office in Malaybalay City on Friday morning, October 1.

Acosta is the first to file his COC among Bukidnon’s prominent politicians months ahead of the 2022 elections.    

A former congressman, Acosta served as presidential adviser and as general manager of Laguna Lake Development Authority from 2011 to 2016, during the administration of President Benigno Aquino III. 

Although he is a member of the Liberal Party, he chose to seek his old post as an independent candidate. 

The 55-year-old Acosta served as Bukidnon’s 1st District representative from 1998 to 2007, an area that covers the towns of Manolo Fortich, Malitbog, Talakag, Baungon, Libona, and Sumilao. 

Before becoming congressman, he was a member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan from 1995 to 1998.
