The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) released a special postal stamp for the quincentennial anniversary of the battle of Mactan.

“Through this postage stamp, our future generations will learn not just the day when our forebears were victorious in battle,” Postmaster General Fulgencio said in a press statement published on Friday, April 30.

“But also the day when Filipinos  acknowledged its place worldwide as a significant contributor to the development and progress of humanity,” Fulgencio said.

Lapulapu, a chieftan from Mactan, led the forces who killed Portuguese colonizer Ferdinand Magellan.

Senator Bong Go caused controversy at the quincentennial celebration of the Battle of Mactan on Tuesday, April 27, when he wrongly claimed that Lapulapu was a Tausug from Mindanao.
