PNP confirms priest's release

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police on Friday, September 13, confirmed the release of a Catholic priest who was held hostage by armed followers of Nur Misuari in Zamboanga City on Tuesday, September 10.

Fr Michael Ufana is now in the custody of the local police in Camp Batalla, headquarters of the regional PNP in Zamboanga City, according to Senior Supt Chiquito Malayo.

We earlier reported that a priest who was being held hostage was released Thursday night. Rappler stands by that story.

But Malayo said Ufana was released 7 am Friday in Barangay Sta Catalina.

The standoff in Zamboanga is now on its 5th day. -
