Cavite police says Amadeo town Vice Mayor Conrado Viado is the head of the notorious Asiong Gang

The Intelligence Unit of the Cavite Provincial Police Office arrested Amadeo town Vice Mayor Conrado Viado and 8 others during a raid in his home Tuesday, October 20.

Lieutenant Colonel Vicente Cabatingan led the police team which implemented 15 search warrants on Viado’s residence in Barangay Maymangga in Amadeo.

The police confiscated over 21 firearms during the raid. All those arrested will be charged with violation of RA 10591 of the Illegal Possession of Firearms law.

A police report labeled Viado as a “high value individual,” identifying him as the leader of the notorious Asiong Group.

The report said that the Asiong Group was “composed of some elected officials involved in gun for hire, land grabbing, extortion, gun running and other shooting incidents in Amadeo and nearby cities and municipalities in Cavite.”

Colonel Marlon Santos, the Cavite police provincial director, said the others arrested were: Roberto Gonzaga, Cristobal Catimon, Arnel Atienza, Guillermo Viado, Romeo Ambata Jr, Jarinya Trinidad, Florencio Dimaano, and Neil Tibayan. All were residents of Amadeo.

The arrest was the culmination of (Case Operation Plan)  COPlan “Pag-Gabot” which particularly targetted Viado and the other members of Asiong Group.

The police said the criminal group had long struck fear among the residents of Amadeo. “The group usually threatened the people not to report to the authorities their involvement in crimes,” said cops.

A total of 21 long and short firearms were confiscated from the suspects. These were 4 M-14 rifles; 3 M-16 rifles; 1 shotgun; 1 caliber 30 Carbine; 7 caliber 45 pistols; 1 caliber 22 pistol; 2 caliber 22 rifles; a caliber 38 pistol; a caliber 38 revolver; and several magazines and live ammunitions.

Judge Cynthia R. Mariño-Ricablanca of the Regional Trial Court 4A Branch 27 of Sta. Cruz, Laguna issued the search warrants on Viado’s home.

The suspects were now detained in the Amadeo Municipal Police Station. – Rappler.com
