A policeman in Cagayan province has been arrested by the Philippine National Police (PNP) on April 30 after extorting arrested individuals who played sabong (cock fighting) in Peñablanca town.

Police Staff Sergeant Arphie Bryan Tuliao was arrested by the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) during an entrapment operation in Barangay Camasi, according to IMEG director Brigadier General Thomas Frias Jr.

Tuliao was caught in the act of receiving the extortion money from the accused in a gas station in Peñablanca town.

According to Frias, they received an intelligence report that Tuliao was demanding P40,000 (around $830) each from the 4 individuals who were arrested for cock fighting. Tuliao demanded the money in exchange for not filing a case in court against the accused.

IMEG director added the amount was reduced to P12,000 (around $249) after Tuliao’s negotiations with the accused.

The arrested policeman is now under the custody of the IMEG authorities in Pampanga.

On March 23, the PNP arrested Police Major Orlyn Leyte of Police Station 9 in Zamboanga City during an entrapment operation for extortion.

Eight days later, 11 policemen were also relieved over robbery, extortion, and rape complaints in Cebu City. – Rappler.com
