Drilon to Poe: Find own platform, Daang Matuwid is ours
MANILA, Philippines – In an apparent swipe at Senator Grace Poe, Liberal Party stalwart and Senate President Franklin Drilon said other presidential bets should find their own respective platforms of governance.
Drilon said Daang Matuwid (Straight path) is already the platform of President Benigno Aquino III and administration standard-bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas II.
In her declaration speech, Poe reiterated that no single group owns Daang Matuwid.
“No one man or group holds a monopoly on "Tuwid na Daan." President Aquino has done much to curb corruption and I am thankful that it has restored the people's faith in an honest leader,” Poe said in her declaration speech.
Drilon, in response, said this “principle has been tested and applied by this administration consistently.”
“Ang mga katunggali ay dapat po maghanap ng ibang plataporma, at ito na po ang plataporma ng Pangulong Noynoy,” Drilon told reporters on Wednesday, September 23. (Our opponents should find another platform because this [Straight Path] is already the platform of President Noynoy.)
Poe and Aquino met several times in the past but failed to reach an agreement. Aquino and the LP publicly wooed Poe to be Roxas’ running mate, even as they continuously questioned her competence. Poe declined the offer and announced her bid against Roxas on September 16.
Asked if Poe should now be identified as an opposition member, Drilon said: “Well, the fact is she is not the appointed candidate of the President.”
While he said he does not want to advise Poe on the matter, Drilon insisted to Poe that Daang Matuwid "is the platform of PNoy (President Aquino) and his anointed successor." – Rappler.com
