Pro-Escudero politicians form 'chopsuey' alliance in Sorsogon
SORSOGON, Philippines – Warring political camps in this province have decided to set aside their differences to support the vice presidential bid of their province mate, Senator Francis Escudero.
Sorsogon Governor Raul Lee said in an interview that 3 major political camps in the province have united to back Escudero – members of the Nationalist People's Coalition NPC), the ruling Liberal Party (LP), and the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).
“We have a local alliance with UNA, NPC, and LP as we want to uphold the candidacy and leadership of Chiz,” Lee said.
They showed their support during the Sorsogon sortie of Escudero and presidential candidate Grace Poe on Saturday, April 9.
They are Sorsogon Second District Representative Deogracias Ramos, LP provincial chairman; Lee UNA provincial chairman; and LP gubernatorial candidate Robert “Bobet” Lee Rodrigueza, the godson of LP standard-bearer Manuel "Mar" Roxas II.
They were joined by 13 out of 14 town mayors, and a city mayor.
When asked, Lee said he would not leave UNA. He also said that his son, Bobet, will remain in the ruling party. Bobet and his mother,
Former Casiguran mayor Boboy Hamor described the pro-Escudero Sorsogon politicians as having a "chopsuey" alliance.
Escudero used to be the perennial poll front-runner among vice presidential candidates, but the race has become tight with the inclusion of Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr and Camarines Sur Representative Leni Robredo – Escudero's toughest rivals. – Rappler.com
