Duterte sweeps Rappler online polls for 3rd presidential debate

MANILA, Philippines – It is again a sweep for Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, who emerged as the winner in the online polls that Rappler conducted for the 3rd presidential debate in Pangasinan on Sunday, April 24.

Here’s how Duterte fared in each of the online polls:

• Town-hall segments (sectoral representatives asked candidates questions) – 65.63% (1st half) and 74.72% (2nd half)
  
• Face-off round (candidates asked each other questions) – 65.97%
• Overall debate winner – 65.74%

The Davao City mayor also won Rappler’s online polls for the Cagayan de Oro presidential debate and the Cebu presidential debate.

In Pangasinan, he reiterated his promise to target drugs and corruption.

Duterte also said “historical injustices” must be corrected to resolve the conflict in Mindanao. The mayor is in favor of the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL).

On health care, Duterte said there should be one doctor per barangay.

Like the other candidates, he also vowed to put an end to contractualization.

Duterte also said that he plans to create a department and a system of banks that would specifically address the concerns of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

Other candidates’ rankings

The rest of the other candidates were far behind in the online polls, but former interior secretary Manuel Roxas II and Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago were consistently 2nd and 3rd.

Here are the figures for Roxas:

 

• Town-hall segments – 12.5% (1st half) and 13.06% (2nd half)
  
• Face-off round – 17.12%
• Overall debate winner – 18.03%

Here’s a summary of the percentages for Santiago:

• Town-hall segments – 12.5% (1st half) and 8.89% (2nd half)
• Face-off round – 11.27%
• Overall debate winner – 11.83%

 

Senator Grace Poe, who was consistently 4th in the online polls, and Vice President Jejomar Binay, who was consistently last, both had single-digit percentages.

Rappler editors, meanwhile, named Poe and Roxas as their top picks.
