IN PHOTOS: Mar Roxas’ miting de avance

MANILA, Philippines – Thousands of people in yellow flocked to the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City for the Liberal Party (LP) miting de avance on May 7, two days before the elections. 

They were there to show support for LP standard-bearer Manuel “Mar” Roxas II and his running mate, Leni Robredo – as well as their senatorial slate. 

The miting de avance was attended by LP supporters from all social classes who said they want change but also the continuity of “Daang Matuwid.”

One of them is Milagros Torres, a maid from Novaliches. “Makakatulong sila na magbigay ng kabuhayan sa’ting kababayan na katulad namin na mahirap lang din… Papalawakin pa po nila ang 4Ps na hindi lang ako ang masasali sa 4Ps, marami pa po siyang matutulungan.”

(He will help by providing more jobs to poor people like us. He will widen the reach of 4Ps to include more beneficiaries of the program)

More than a political rally, one could easily mistake Mar Roxas’ miting de advance for a concert. The mood was festive all throughout.

“Yellow stands for hope, yellow stands for humility, yellow stands for forgiveness, yellow stands for, ‘kaya natin ‘to! (We can do this!)” exclaimed Valenciano.

In response, the supporters, often labeled the “silent minority,” broke their silence.
