MANILA, Philippines (4th UPDATE) – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) intensified its drive to register and validate more voters for the 2016 national elections by setting up satellite voters’ registration booths in more malls and barangays nationwide.

This is part of the Comelec’s drive to register more first-time voters and reach out to around 3.5 million voters who lack biometrics data, as of July 2015, through its “No Bio, No Boto” campaign.

Voters’ registration and biometrics validation for the 2016 polls are ongoing until October 31, 2015. (READ: How to register for the 2016 elections)

On Wednesday, July 22, the Comelec will sign a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Pacific Mall Corporation to establish satellite voter registration/validation booths inside their malls in Legazpi City in Albay, Lucena City in Quezon, and Mandaue City in Cebu.

The schedules in these malls have already been included in the list above.

Meanwhile, on July 17, the Comelec held a special satellite voter registration for the general public with priority given to Persons with Disabilities and senior citizens at select SM Malls nationwide, in celebration of the 37th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week.

Voters may also go to local Comelec offices, which are open 8 am to 5 pm from Sunday to Friday in Metro Manila and highly-urbanized cities, and from Monday to Friday in other cities and towns.

The poll body reported a high turnout in recent offsite registration activities in malls in Metro Manila. A total of 5,229 and 5,485 voters signed up during the first and second waves, respectively, of this campaign in the first two weekends of July, according to the Comelec. – Rappler.com
