Sonny Angara elected new LDP president
MANILA, Philippines – Senator Juan Edgardo "Sonny" Angara was elected president of the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP), the party founded by his father, the late senator Edgardo Angara.
In a statement on Saturday, September 22, Angara said his election "serves as an opportunity for him to continue his father’s aspirations not only for the 30-year-old party but for the nation as well."
The elder Angara died on May 13.
"Sa totoo nga, dapat magsilbing inspirasyon ang aking ama para patuloy nating isulong ang mga mahahalagang reporma (To tell you the truth, my father should serve as an inspiration so that we continue to push for important reforms in government)," Angara said during the organizational meeting and fellowship dinner with partymates on Friday, September 21.
These reforms, the statement said, include widening access to education, better job opportunities, universal health care, and universal social pension for senior citizens.
