MANILA, Philippines – Conrado “Ding” Generoso, former spokesman of President Rodrigo Duterte’s constitution drafting committee and a longtime federalism advocate, is seeking a seat in the Senate.
Generoso filed his certificate of candidacy for senator on Tuesday, October 16, under the Katipunan ng Kamalayang Kayumanggi party. He was accompanied by the 11 other members of the party’s slate, representing regions all over the country.
Calling himself “Heneral Federalismo,” he said their Senate slate’s main advocacy is to push for the draft federal charter created by the 22-member Consultative Committee (Con-Com).
He referred to it as the “Puno draft,” in honor of Con-Com chairman Reynato Puno, a former chief justice.
“We are taking part in this electoral exercise for one reason and one reason only – that is to campaign for federalism, system change, and the adoption of the Puno draft constitution,” Generoso said, calling the document the party’s 13th candidate.
Their party will also be campaigning against all candidates opposing the Con-Com draft charter.
“To all candidates who oppose it, we will campaign against you because we will be campaigning for change and if you do not represent change, we will ask them not to vote for you,” he said in a mix of English and Filipino.
Aside from being Con-Com spokesman, Generoso had also been an assistant of Puno’s. He had also been with the Department of the Interior and Local Goverment, specifically with its federalism drive.
Generoso made headlines in recent months after he had suggested involving controversial former assistant secretary Mocha Uson in the Con-Com’s federalism information drive. (WATCH: Rappler Talk: Con-Com’s Ding Generoso on Mocha Uson, federalism info drive) – Rappler.com
