No more leadership vacuum in Mountain Province
Bonifacio Lacwasan Jr faces 5 challengers in his bid for governor of Mountain Province

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – For the past two years, Mountain Province had no governor or House representative. Governor Leonard Mayaen died of a massive heart attack on March 2016 while Congressman Maximo Dalog Sr. succumbed to a lingering illness on June  2017.

Vice Governo Bonifacio Lacwasan Jr. replaced Mayaen after a lengthy legal dispute while Kalinga Representative Jesse Mangaoang became the provincial caretaker in the House.

Next year, there seems to be no dearth of candidates for both offices. Dalog’s son, Maximo Jr, is among seven candidates for representative. The others include Paracelis Mayor Avelino Amangyen, who survived a stabbing by a group of men in Isabela last October 2017, Tadian Mayor Anthony Wooden, and former Mountain Province Police Director Allen S. Ocden.

Other candidates for the lone district are contractor Jupiter Dominguez, Jonathan Harder and Albert G. Paday-os.

Lacwasan will run for a full term governor while five others decided to join him. Natonin Mayor Mateo Chiyawan, Sagada Mayor Eduardo Latawan, contractor Harry Dominguez, Antonio Grupo Jr. and Magellan Limliman.

Fighting for vice governor are Ezra Samson Gomez, Raul Lapon and Francis Tauli. – Rappler.com
