She filed her certificate of candidacy on Tuesday, November 27, replacing his father-in-law, former governor Vicente “Govic” Magsaysay, who withdrew his candidacy on the same day. 

Mitos will be up against incumbent 1st District Representative Jeffrey Khonghun, who is gunning for his 3rd term.

Khonghun has grown more popular among voters over the years, but Mitos – a former 3-term congresswoman herself – also boasts an hall of fame award for her outstanding work in the House of Representatives.

Mitos has the backing of reelectionist Zambales Governor Amor Deloso and 2nd District Representative Cheryl Deloso Montalla.

Suspended Olongapo mayor withdraws in favor of son

Meanwhile, suspended City Mayor Rolen Paulino on Thursday withdrew his certificate of candidacy and was replaced by his son Rolen Paulino Jr as candidate for mayor. 

The substitution of Paulino and his son and the withdrawal of the candidacy of an aspirant for city councilor was recorded on the last day of substitution of candidates, said Election Officer Marvyn Gaerlan.

The older Paulino was running for a 3rd term. He is serving a 6-month suspension ordered by the Ombudman in relation to a lease agreement that the city government entered into with SM. – Rappler.com
