Chiz Escudero hosts lunch in Sorsogon for rival senatorial bets
SORSOGON, Philippines – The house of Senator Chiz Escudero here was the venue of an unusual event – opposing senatorial candidates eating lunch together, exchanging pleasantries and talking about life after elections.
The chance meeting was a pleasant surprise for Go who was seeking the endorsement of Escudero.
Escudero himself is running for governor of Sorsogon as his term as senator has ended.
It was indeed a rare scene, as the candidates of Otso Diretso have repeatedly challenged their counterparts from the administration to debate on burning electoral issues.
Over Sunday lunch there was no rivalry. They even posed for pictures together.
Escudero, who is running under the Nationalist People’s Coalition party, said candidates from the different political parties were welcome in their home.
Go said he had nothing personal against Macalintal and Hilbay. “Makakatulong siya, makakatulong tayo. Magsama tayo magtulugan sa bayan. After election period kalimutan na natin ang lahat, let’s move forward para sa country. (They can help. I can help. Let's be together in helping the country. After the elections let's forget the past.)
Later Escudero raised the hand endorsed the candidacy of Go.
Aside from Go, Macalintal, and Hilbay, Escudero also invited other senatorial candidates to his proclamation rally Sunday afternoon at the Our Lady of Penafrancia Seminary here.
They were reelectionist senators JV Ejercito, Cynthia Villar, Sonny Angara, Bam Aquino, and candidates Lito Lapid, Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada, Bong Revilla and Neri Colmenares.
Challenging Escudero for the governorship is PDP-Laban candidate Vladimir Ramon Frivaldo, grandson of the late Sorsogon governor Juan Frivaldo.
Escudero has been a legislator for the past 21 years – 9 as congressman and 12 as senator. – Rappler.com
