Crisologo arrest: Cops retrieve only P800 from 'vote buying site'
MANILA, Philippines – Cops retrieved only P800 from an alleged vote buying site where Quezon City mayoral candidate Bingbong Crisologo was arrested on Sunday, May 12.
According to the police report, Crisologo was arrested for allegedly obstructing justice at an alleged vote buying site located at Agueda Street in Barangay Bahay Toro.
Crisologo was arrested with his son Edrix and at least 40 others who were allegedly involved in buying and selling votes.
But according to cops, they were only able to retrieve P800 from one person in the operation – a certain Renato Echas.
When asked to explain why, Colonel Alex Alberto, the station commander who covers the area of the operation, said they were unable to raid the site because their men were "outnumbered" and they also did not have a search warrant.
Cops arrested Crisologo and his supporters based on a tip, and sent an 8-man intelligence team for the operation.
Alberto said they believe the source of funds was kept deeper in the house where the alleged vote buying occurred.
Crisologo and his camp denied the allegations and called the arrest "unlawful." The mayoral candidate said the operatives did not read them their Miranda rights before the arrest or the cases that would be filed against them.
As of posting time, Crisologo and his supporters remain detained at Camp Karingal, under the custody of the Quezon City Police District's Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit. – Rappler.com
