Butch Abad loses congressional bid in Batanes
MANILA, Philippines – Liberal Party stalwart Florencio "Butch" Abad failed in his bid to return to the House of Representatives as district representative of Batanes.
Abad lost by a margin of 238 votes to Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) candidate Ciriaco Gato Jr, according to partial, unofficial results from 100% of Batanes' precincts on Wednesday, May 15.
Abad garnered 3,129 votes while Gato had 3,367.
Abad served as budget secretary in the previous Aquino administration.
Abad's wife, the late Henedina Abad, had occupied the position until her death from cancer in October 2017. – Rappler.com
