Vilma Santos leads Nacionalista Party near-sweep of Batangas congress race
Nacionalistas win 5 of 6 congressional districts in Batangas

BATANGAS, Philippines – “Star for all seasons” Vilma Santos-Recto led the Nacionalista Party onslaught in the race for congressional seats in this province.

As of 1:42 pm, Tuesday, May 14, with votes from 84.27% precincts, the Comelec’s partial and unofficial count for the 6th district congress seat of Batangas showed Santos ahead with 87,932 votes against Meynard Sabili‘s 55,646.

Santos is vying for her second term, while Sabili is the incumbent Lipa City mayor.

Santos has not lost an election since she entered politics in 1998. She was mayor of Lipa City from 1998 to 2007, and governor of Batangas from 2007 to 2013.

Aside from Santos, 4 other Nacionalista Party bets are showing the way in the congressional races here. All of them, like Santos, are incumbents.

These are Elenita Milagros Ermita Buhain in the 1st District, Raneo Abu 2nd District, Lianda Bolilia 4th District, and Marvey Mariño, who ran unopposed in the 5th District.

The 3rd District representative Ma. Theresa Collantes, also an incumbent, was lone congress race leader who was not a Nacionalista. She was fielded by the ruling PDP-Laban. – Rappler.com
