Duterte in Cebu for thanksgiving concert

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Five days before President-elect Rodrigo Duterte assumes office, he returned to Cebu for a thanksgiving concert dubbed "One Love, One Nation: Halad Pasalamat."

The concert, happening at the South Road Properties (SRP), is set for Saturday evening, June 25, with Duterte scheduled to appear sometime after 10 pm.

The concert was organized by the Cebu Alliance for Change Movement, one of several volunteer groups which helped campaign for Duterte during the elections.

Last May, Cebu delivered 1.1 million votes for Duterte, while his closest rival Manuel "Mar" Roxas II only got around 586,000 votes in the province.

According to lead organizer Doris Mongaya, between 50,000 and 80,000 people are expected to attend the concert.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Region 7 Senior Superintendent Lyndon Lawas said police are on full alert for the event.

The Presidential Security Group (PSG) is also in the area to secure the president-elect.

The concert will be hosted by Kat De Castro, Keanna Reeves, Bryan Cabase, and Arnell Ignacio.

Dulce, Max Surban, the Wowowee Dancers, and contestants from The Voice Kids are among the expected performers.

This is the second thanksgiving concert held for Duterte. The first one was in Davao City last June 4.

Duterte was previously in Cebu on June 8 for a private thanksgiving party at the Cebu Country Club by the Bisaya Na Pud Movement. – Rappler.com
