Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III is infected with COVID-19, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced on Tuesday, August 17.

In a statement, DOLE said Bello is asymptomatic and “remains on top of his health.”

The labor chief had visited several areas in the Philippines before getting infected.

“Prior to contracting the virus, the secretary has been receiving officials and guests at his office and traveled to various parts of the country distributing assistance to displaced and disadvantaged formal and informal sector workers affected by the pandemic,” DOLE said.

Bello is in isolation in his hometown of Ilagan City, Isabela, where his COVID-19 test was conducted. He was tested last Saturday, August 14.

DOLE said Bello continues to work even during isolation.
