MANILA, Philippines – Amid the applause, boos were heard after the last State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Benigno Aquino III on Monday, July 27.
Inside the plenary hall of the Batasan Pambansa, several lawmakers who are part of the Makabayan bloc were able to get past security to gather in front of Aquino and show placards that read among others “Serbisyo Palpak” (Poor Service).
At the podium beside Aquino, Senate President Franklin Drilon was heard trying to drown the boos on the microphone, as he looked disapprovingly at the protest inside the plenary.
Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr said the boos were directed at the protesters.
Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II, who received generous praise from the President during his speech, in a TV interview dismissed it as a “rude behavior.” – Rappler.com
