Corona closed 3 accounts on the day he was impeached

MANILA, Philippines – Chief Justice Renato Corona closed 3 of his peso accounts with the Philippines Savings Bank (PSBank) on the same day he was impeached by the House of Representatives, bank officials told the impeachment court on Thursday, February 16.

These are the peso accounts with the balances P7.15-M and P12.58-M. These are account numbers 089121021681 and 089121019593, respectively, according to branch manager Annabelle Tiongson.

Tiongson testified that the two peso accounts were closed on Dec. 12, 2011. The combined known balance of the first 2 accounts as of Dec. 31, 2010 is about P20-M. In his Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Networth (SALN), Corona only declared P3.5-million worth of “cash and investments.”

PSBank president Pascual Garcia III also said Corona closed 3rd account on Dec. 12, 2011, which he opened with P17-M. But Garcia could not recall the ending balance of this account.– Rappler.com
