MANILA, Philippines – The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that a total amount of P12,994,213.85 worth of relief assistance has been already provided to families affected by the non-stop rain in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon.

In its latest update at 5pm, NDRRMC said that 541,498 persons and 123,484 families have been affected by the bad weather condition. 

Some 78,179 individuals and 16,512 families are reportedly staying in 216 evacuation centers nationwide. A total of 46 cities and municipalities are affected by flood in Regions I, III, IV-A and NCR, NDRRMC added.

There are 11 areas declared under state of calamity due to deep floodwater.

In terms of casualties, NDRRMC has so far only monitored the landslide incident in Quezon City, which killed 9 people and injured 4 others.

Local officials claim that at least 15 people were killed and 1 person was left missing from various incidents monitored in the affected areas in the country.

Weather bureau Pagasa reported that there is no tropical cyclone within the Philippine Area of Responsibility, though typhoon Haikui is still affecting the monsoon.

The monsoon rain will continue to batter Luzon and western Visayas within the next 24 hours.

Due to non-stop rains in Metro Manila and some parts of Luzon, some local goverment officials and school officials announced that classes will remain suspended until Wednesday, August 8. – Rappler.com
