MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Ineng (international codename Goni) has weakened further as its movement accelerated on Saturday night, August 22.

In its 11 pm bulletin, state weather bureau PAGASA said that Ineng packed maximum sustained winds of 140 km/h near its eye, with gustiness of up to 170 km/h.

It was located 175 kms northeast of Basco, Batanes, at 10 pm Saturday. It is seen to move north northeast at 15 km/h.

By Sunday evening, Ineng is expected to be at 530 kms northeast of Basco. By Monday evening, it is forecast to be outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), at 980 kms northeast of Basco.

Batanes remains under Public Storm Warning Signal No. 3. The province should expect winds between 121-170 km/h in the next 18 hours.

Moderate to heavy rains are expected within the typhoon’s 500-km diameter. The enhanced habagat will likewise bring monsoon rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.
