MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Butchoy intensified further on Tuesday night, July 5, and maintained its speed and direction.

As of 10 pm, Butchoy was 1,190 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, still moving northwest at 30 kilometers per hour (km/h).

The typhoon strengthened and now has maximum winds of 160 km/h and gustiness of up to 195 km/h.

Butchoy will not make landfall in the Philippines, but it is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon, which is affecting Southern Luzon and the Visayas.

Earlier, in its forecast for Wednesday, July 6, PAGASA said there would be light to moderate rains and thunderstorms in the Visayas, as well as in the regions of Bicol, Mimaropa, Davao, and Caraga.
