Typhoon Butchoy leaves PAR; monsoon still affecting PH

MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Butchoy (Nepartak) left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 3 pm on Friday, July 8.

But even if Butchoy is already outside PAR and it did not make landfall in the Philippines, it continues to enhance the southwest monsoon.

For the rest of Friday and also on Saturday, July 9, expect monsoon rains in Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Zambales, Bataan, Batangas, Pangasinan, Calamian Group of Islands, and Mindoro.

The Visayas and the rest of Luzon will also have occasional rains, while Mindanao will have isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Following Butchoy’s exit, there are no more areas in the Philippines under storm warning signals.

The typhoon’s impact was directly felt in Taiwan, where it hit land around 6 am on Friday. Nepartak forced thousands of people to flee their homes, left dozens injured, disrupted transportation, and prompted the suspension of work and classes.

After hitting Taiwan, the typhoon is now heading for China, where it is expected to make landfall in Fujian province on Saturday.
