Rain, gusty winds expected over Batanes due to Gener

MANILA, Philippines – State weather service PAGASA reported on Friday, September 16, that Typhoon Gener (Malakas) was now located some 220 kilometers east-northeast of Basco, Batanes.

Gener is generating maximum sustained winds of 160 kilometers per hour (km/h) and a gustiness of 195 km/h, and is forecast to move north-northwest at a rate of 20 km/h.

Batanes should expect rain and gusty winds as a result.

The Ilocos region and the provinces of Apayao, Cagayan, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan should expect light to moderate rain as well as thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies, along with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Seafarers should take note of moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest, with the winds prevailing over Visayas and the rest of Luzon. This will cause coastal waters along these areas to be moderate to rough. 

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate, coming from the Southwest. Expect slight to moderate seas in those locations. – Rappler.com
