Gener leaves PAR; light-moderate rain in parts of Luzon Sunday

MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Gener has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Saturday afternoon, September 17.

State weather bureau PAGASA said that as of 1 pm, the eye of Gener (international codename Malakas) was 525 kilometers north of Basco, Batanes, outside PAR.

PAGASA added in its 5 pm bulletin that moderate to heavy rain will still be experienced within the typhoon’s 450-km diameter. There are no tropical cyclone warning signals in effect, PAGASA said.

As of 4 pm, Gener is packing maximum sustained winds of up to 175 km/h near the center, and gustiness of up to 210 km/h. It is forecast to move north at 15 km/h. 

In a separate bulletin, PAGASA said that parts of Luzon will experience light to moderate rain on Sunday, September 18, due to the southwest monsoon affecting the western section of Luzon.

The Ilocos region, the Babuyan group of islands, and the provinces of Batanes, Apayao, Zambales, Bataan, and Palawan will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rain within the next 24 hours.

In Metro Manila and the rest of the country, it will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds from the southwest will prevail over Luzon and Visayas, with coastal waters in these areas being moderate to rough. Elsewhere, light to moderate winds will come from the southwest, with slight to moderate seas. – Rappler.com
