MANILA, Philippines – State weather bureau PAGASA continues to monitor a low pressure area (LPA) that could develop into a tropical depression.

In a bulletin issued 4 pm on Tuesday, August 29, PAGASA said the LPA is already 690 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City.

There is a strong chance that the LPA will strengthen into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours. If it does, it will be given the local name Kiko.

PAGASA is also keeping an eye on Tropical Storm Sanvu, which is outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), at 2,705 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon.

Sanvu is moving north at 20 kilometers per hour (km/h) and based on its latest forecast track, it is not expected to enter PAR.

In the meantime, light to heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in the regions of Cagayan Valley and Cordillera, as well as the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Aurora on Wednesday, August 30.

The rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will also have isolated rainshowers.

PAGASA also warned that coastal waters in extreme Northern Luzon will be moderate to rough.
