MANILA, Philippines – Tropical Depression Kiko strengthened into a tropical storm as it was making its way out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday, September 6. As it intensified, it was given the international name Guchol.
In a bulletin issued 11 pm on Wednesday, state weather bureau PAGASA announced that Kiko had already left PAR. As of 10 pm, it was 295 kilometers west northwest of Basco, Batanes, moving north northwest at 15 kilometers per hour.
While there are no more tropical cyclones inside PAR, sea travel remains risky for fishermen and those with small vessels in the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon.
Earlier, PAGASA said up to 4 tropical cyclones may affect the Philippines in September.
