15 areas under signal no. 1 as Maring maintains strength

MANILA, Philippines – There are now 15 areas under signal number 1 due to Tropical Depression Maring, which maintained its strength late Monday evening, September 11.

In a bulletin issued 11 pm on Monday, state weather bureau PAGASA said Maring is already 190 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon, moving west northwest at 13 kilometers per hour (km/h).

The tropical depression continues to have maximum winds of 45 km/h and gustiness of up to 60 km/h.

Signal number 1 is raised in the following areas due to Maring:

• Metro Manila
• Catanduanes
• Camarines Norte
• Camarines Sur
• northern Quezon including Polillo Island
• Rizal
• Bulacan
• Aurora
• Pampanga
• Quirino
• Nueva Ecija
• Tarlac
• Pangasinan
• Zambales
• Bataan

The tropical depression is bringing moderate to heavy rain to the regions of Bicol, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Metro Manila, and Central Luzon, as well as the province of Pangasinan. These areas should watch out for floods and landslides.

Classes have already been suspended in several cities and provinces for Tuesday, September 12.

Maring is expected to make landfall in the Quezon-Aurora area on Tuesday afternoon.

PAGASA also warned that sea travel is dangerous in the eastern seaboards of Aurora, Quezon, and Bicol.

Typhoon Lannie

PAGASA also continues to monitor Typhoon Lannie, which is not directly affecting the country, unlike Maring.

Lannie is already 1,255 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan, moving west northwest toward Taiwan at 26 km/h.

The typhoon continues to have maximum winds of 120 km/h and gustiness of up to 145 km/h.

There are no areas under tropical cyclone warning signals due to Lannie.

Both Maring and Lannie are expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Thursday, September 14. – Rappler.com
