More rain in Luzon on June 14 as LPA enhances monsoon
MANILA, Philippines – A low pressure area (LPA) near Taiwan is enhancing the southwest monsoon in the Philippines, which means more rain on Thursday, June 14.
In a bulletin issued 4 pm on Wednesday, June 13, state weather bureau PAGASA said the southwest monsoon will continue to affect Luzon on Thursday.
Moderate to heavy rain is expected in Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Babuyan Group of Islands, Cavite, Batangas, Bataan, and Zambales. Residents of these areas should watch out for possible floods and landslides.
Meanwhile, Mimaropa, the rest of Cagayan Valley, the rest of Central Luzon, and the rest of Calabarzon will experience light to moderate rain, which could trigger floods in low-lying areas. (READ: FAST FACTS: Tropical cyclones, rainfall advisories)
Bicol, the Visayas, and Mindanao, which won't be affected by the southwest monsoon on Thursday, will only experience isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms with "no significant impact."
PAGASA added that a gale warning has been issued for Batanes, Calayan, Babuyan, Cagayan, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, Isabela, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan. This means sea conditions will be rough to very rough, with wave heights reaching 2.8 meters to 4.5 meters.
"Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves," said PAGASA.
PAGASA said in its monthly outlook that there could be up to two tropical cyclones in June, so it is possible that the Philippines would have another one this month.
