Thunderstorm in Metro Manila likely - Pagasa
MANILA, Philippines (4th UPDATE) - The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) warned that a thunderstorm is likely to develop in Metro Manila on Saturday, May 25.
In a thunderstorm advisory on Saturday, Pagasa said the thunderstorm may develop within the next 12 hours. It also advised the public to monitor their updates.
"Thunderstorms are expected to affect Carmona, Mendoza, Alfonso, Sila & Amadeo, Cavite within 2-3 hours w/c may persist in 1-2 hrs," Pagasa said.
"All are advised to take precautionary measures against heavy rains, gusty winds, lightning strikes and possible flashfloods. All are advised to monitor for the next updates," it added.
In its 5 am weather update on Saturday, Pagasa said cloudy skies and light to moderate rain showers will be prevalent on the last Saturday of May as a diffused tailend of a cold front affects Northern Luzon and the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affects Southern Mindanao.
Pagasa said the following regions will be particularly affected by the cold front and ITCZ:
- Cagayan Valley
- Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM)
- Zamboanga Peninsula
"Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly over the western section," Pagasa said.
It added that light to moderate winds blowing from the Southeast to south will prevail over Luzon and the Visayas, while winds coming from the east to northeast will prevail over Mindanao.
Pagasa also alerted fishermen and those travelling by sea that coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate. - Rappler.com
