MANILA, Philippines (2nd Update) –  Tropical depression Emong is maintaining its strength as it moves in a north northwestern direction state weather bureau PAGASA said in its 11pm update on Monday, June 17, causing rain in many parts of the country.

Emong was last spotted 340 km east of Date, Camarine Norte (14.7°N, 126.4°E), carrying maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center, and moving north northwest at 9 km/h.

Moderate to heavy rainfall (5-15 mm/h) is estimated within the system’s 300 km diameter.

No public storm warning signals have been raised.

Cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rain and thunderstorms is in the forecast for Bicol, Mimaropa, and the Visayas, the bureau said in its 24-hour public forecast.

Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, and the Zamboanga Peninsula will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rain. The rest of Mindanao will have have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain.
