MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Tropical storm Gorio made its second landfall in Sorsogon at 3 pm Saturday afternoon, state weather bureau PAGASA said.


Earlier, the weather bureau reported the next landfalls after the first one in Easter Samar would occur in Burias Island and Southern Quezon

The tropical storm is still moving northwest with a speed of 19 kph, with maximum winds of 65 kph with gustiness of up to 80 kph. It may increase speed of up to 24 kph.

In PAGASA’s 5 pm update, Gorio is expected to be 60 km northwest of Iba, Zambales tomorrow afternoon after passing Metro Manila in the morning.

On Monday afternoon, it will be 560 km northwest of Sinait, Ilocos Sur and out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

PAGASA raised storm signals over Metro Manila and 12 other areas from signal No. 1 to signal No. 2. It also lowered storm signals from No. 2 to No. 1 in 4 areas. The state weather agency also lifted storm signals in Ifugao, Southern Leyte, and Northern Cebu including Bantayan and Camotes Islands.

About 23 flights were cancelled by the Department of Transportation and Communications, and over 5,400 passengers were reported stranded by the Philippine Coast Guard as storm signals were raised over areas in Luzon and Visayas.

Moderate to heavy rainfall was observed over Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon for the past hour and is most likely to continue for the next 3 hours, PAGASA said at 4:58 pm.
