Gorio out of PH, onward to south China

MANILA, Philippines – Tropical storm Gorio (Rumbia) has exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) early Monday, July 1, and is now moving towards southern China.

Gorio has further strengthened as it traversed the South China Sea overnight, and as of 4am Monday, was estimated to be 560 km northwest of Dagupan City (18.0ºN, 114.9ºE).

It is currently carrying maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 100 km/h, while moving northwest at 30 km/h, state weather bureau PAGASA said in its last bulletin for Gorio, released 5 am.

Ilocos, Mimaropa, and the provinces of Zambales and Pangasinan will have a cloudy day, accompanied by light to moderate rain.

The rest of the archipelago will have partly cloudy skies with isolated rain mostly late in the day, the bureau said in its 24-hour forecast.

Strong to gale force winds can also be expected along the western coasts of northern and central Luzon, which could be dangerous for small seacraft.
