Cloudy skies over east Luzon Thursday

MANILA, Philippines – Cloudy skies are in the forecast for most of eastern Luzon Thursday, July 11, as typhoon Huaning (Soulik) continues to cross the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Huaning was spotted 1,150 km east of Itbayat, Batanes (21.6°N, 134.4°E), carrying maximum sustained winds of 176 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 210 km/h.

The typhoon is currently moving west northwest, at a speed of 20 km/h. It is currently on track towards the northern tip of Taiwan.

Public storm warning signal number 1 has been raised over the province of Batanes, as the typhoon moves closer.

As the typhoon moves within PAR, cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are expected Thursday over Cagayan Valley, Bicol, and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon.

The rest of the country, on the other hand, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies, accompanied by isolated rain, the bureau said in its 24-hour forecast released late Wednesday.

As it moves closer, Huaning is also expected to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing rain over the country’s western coast.
