MANILA, Philippines – Batanes will have a rainy, windy Friday, July 12, as typhoon Huaning (Soulik) nears Taiwan, while parts of Visayas and Mindanao will be cloudy.

Typhoon Huaning was 690 kilometers east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes (22.5°N, 129.2°E) as of 4 pm Thursday, carrying maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 220 km/h.

Batanes, still under storm signal number 1 due to the typhoon, is forecast to experience rain with gusty winds Friday, the bureau said in its 24-hour forecast released late Thursday.

Cloudy skies with light to moderate rain are in the forecast for Western Visayas, the Zamboanga peninsula, and Northern Mindanao.

The rest of the archipelago will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies, accompanied by isolated rain or thunderstorms.

Prevailing winds will come from the west to southwest.
