MANILA, Philippines – Tropical depression Isang is now crossing Cagayan Valley, after making landfall early Wednesday, July 17, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

Isang made landfall over Estagno Point, Isabela, and was spotted 70 km east of Tuguegarao City (17.3˚N, 122.3˚E) as of 4 am Wednesday, carrying maximum winds of 55 km/h per center.

Storm warning signal #1 is still in effect over the following provinces:

  • Quirino
  • Isabela
  • Ifugao
  • Mt. Province
  • Abra
  • Kalinga
  • Apayao
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Ilocos Sur
  • Cagayan, including the Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands

Isang is moving northwest at a speed of 15 km/h, and is estimated to be 160 km west of Basco, Batanes by Thursday morning, July 18.

Moderate to heavy rainfall (5-15 mm/h) is estimated within the tropical depression’s 300 km diameter.

The tropical depression will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing rain over other parts of Luzon and Western Visayas.
