MANILA, Philippines – Tropical Storm Odette (international codename Usagi) has strengthened further Wednesday morning, September 18, but has remained practically stationary for the past 18 hours.

As of 10 am Wednesday, Odette was estimated to be 800 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City (17.2°N, 130.3°E), with maximum sustained winds of 95 km/h and gusts of up to 120 km/h.

Odette is estimated to carry heavy to intense rainfall (15-20 mm/h) within its 500 km diameter.

The storm is forecast to move west at a slow speed of 7 km/h, in the general direction of extreme north Luzon, state weather bureau PAGASA said in its 11 am bulletin.

It is expected to be 630 km east of Tuguegarao by Thursday morning, the bureau said.

While still far from land, Odette will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing rain over western parts of Central & Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
