MANILA, Philippines – Two persons died while 2 more remain missing after a boat capsized off the coast of Aurora Friday, September 20, at the height of Typhoon Odette.

M/V Mikee Rose 1, carrying 7 passengers and 6 crew members, left Palanan, Isabela around 5:00 pm. It capsized as it approached Dingalan, Aurora.

Fifty-year-old Alejandro Abalos and 20-year-old April Kim Manuel drowned at sea and died, reported the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) in its Situation Report No. 5.

The search for Elenita and Suzette Abalos is still ongoing. The rest of those onboard were rescued.

The state weather bureau PAGASA reports in its 5pm bulletin that Typhoon Odette slightly weakened as it heads to China. It is expected to be out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Saturday evening, September 21. – Rappler.com
