Tropical depression Santi moves closer to Luzon

MANILA, Philippines – Tropical depression Santi continues to move closer to Luzon Wednesday afternoon, October 9.

As of 4 pm, the weather system was located based on available data to be 510 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes (14.2ºN, 129.2ºE), state weather bureau PAGASA said in its 24-hour forecast.

Santi is carrying winds of 55 km/h, and is currently moving towards the west-northwest, or the general direction of central and north Luzon, at a slow speed of 9 km/h, the bureau said.

The tropical depression is currently still far to affect any part of the country directly. No storm signals have been raised in any part of the country so far.

While Santi continues to pose a threat to parts of Luzon, cloudy skies is in the forecast for large parts of the archipelago Thursday, October 10, the bureau said.

Cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are possible in Mindanao, Visayas, Bicol, Calabarzon, the Mindoro provinces, Marinduque, and Romblon.

The rest of the archipelago, meanwhile, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain, particularly in the afternoon or evening.

Temperatures across the country will range from a low of 16ºC in Baguio to a high of 33ºC in Tuguegarao.
