MANILA, Philippines – Partly cloudy skies are in the forecast for most of the country Monday, October 14, as typhoon Wipha moves closer to entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), state weather bureau PAGASA said.

As of 4 pm Sunday, the center of typhoon Wipha was located 1,340 kilometers east of northern Luzon (19.5ºN, 136.9ºE), just shy of the PAR’s eastern border, the bureau said in its 24-hour forecast Sunday.

The system is carrying maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h and gusts of up to 185 km/h, the bureau said.

It is moving towards the north-northwest at a speed of 15 km/h, and is going to pass through the PAR on its way to the general direction of Japan.

As Wipha continues to hover east of the country, the archipelago on Monday will generally experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain, mostly in the afternoon or evening, the bureau said.

Prevailing winds in Luzon will come from the southwest to southeast, while the rest of the country will experience winds coming from the southwest to west.

Coast waters across the country will be moderate to rough, the bureau said.

Temperatures across the country will range from Baguio City’s low of 15ºC, to Davao City’s high of 34ºC.
