Cooler nights, mornings with onset of ‘Amihan’ – PAGASA

MANILA, Philippines – Expect colder nights and mornings with the onset of the northeast monsoon or “Amihan,” state weather bureau PAGASA said.

The bureau, in a press release Thursday, October 17, said they have monitored “the development and strengthening of high pressure areas over mainland China,” which in turn has shifted win direction over Luzon to the northeast.

The condition is now bringing cold and dry air over the northern part of the country, the bureau said. “This resulted to the lowering of the minimum temperature observed over the Extreme Northern Luzon area.”

“Furthermore, strong to gale force northeasterly winds are beginning to affect the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon. These meteorological conditions normally signify the start of the northeast monsoon season,” it said.

This, the bureau said, will mean colder early morning temperatures, and chance of light rain particularly in the country’s northern and eastern sections.

“Weather conditions over the rest of the country will be generally fair apart from isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening,” the bureau added.

In the bureau’s seasonal climate outlook released last July, PAGASA said the country should expect around 5 to 8 tropical cyclones during the period of October to December. – Rappler.com
