MANILA, Philippines – Heavy rains will continue to affect large parts of the country’s central and southern regions Monday, January 13, as a low pressure area continues to move along the country’s eastern edge.

As of 4 pm Sunday, January 12, the low pressure area bringing heavy rainfall over Visayas and Mindanao was located in the vicinity of Surigao del Sur, state weather bureau PAGASA said in its 24-hour forecast.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon continues to bring cool temperatures to central and northern parts of Luzon.

With the LPA in the area, Caraga, Eastern Visayas, and Central Visayas will have cloudy skies accompanied by moderate to occasionally heavy rain and thunderstorms.

These areas should be on the lookout for flash floods and landslides, the bureau said.

Bicol, Mimaropa, and the rest of the Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms.

The rest of Luzon, meanwhile, will experience cloudy skies with isolated rain, the bureau added.

Prevailing winds will come from the northeast over most parts of the country, while over Mindanao it will come from the northeast to northwest.

There are currently no tropical cyclones within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the bureau said.
