MANILA, Philippines – More rain is in the forecast for large parts of central and southern Philippines due to a low pressure system in the area, state weather bureau PAGASA said Tuesday, January 14.

The LPA, which has been bringing rain to the region since the weekend, was located 50 kilometers south of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, or 80 km northeast of Surigao City as of 4 pm Tuesday, the bureau said in its 24-hour forecast.

This will bring cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rain on Wednesday, January 15, to Bicol, Eastern and Central Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, and the Davao Region.

People in these regions should be on the lookout for possible flash flooding and landslides, the bureau said.

The LPA is expected to persist until Friday, January 17, the bureau said.

Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and the rest of the Visayas and Mindanao should expect cloudy skies accompanied by light to moderate rain.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon, or the amihan, will continue bringing cool temperatures to the country, particularly central and northern parts of Luzon.

Cloudy skies with isolated rains are expected in these areas of Luzon, including Metro Manila.

Prevailing winds will come from mainly the northeast.

There is no tropical cyclone within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the bureau added.
