LPA brings rains to Mindanao, Visayas

MANILA, Philippines – The low pressure area (LPA) spotted on Thursday, March 19 has moved closer to the Philippines, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.

It is now 320 kilometers southeast of Hinatuan town in Surigao del Sur, moving from its spot the previous day – 550 kilometers east of the town. Heavy rains brought by the LPA forced 158 families in Davao del Norte to evacuate due to flooding and the swelling of rivers.

The LPA, a weather system which may turn into a tropical cyclone, is still expected to bring light to moderate rainshowers in Mindanao and Eastern and Central Visayas. These regions may also experience isolated thunderstorms.

Western Visayas will be watched over by cloudy skies bringing isolated rains and thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon are in for more cheerful weather. Except for some isolated light rains, the sun will be shining in these areas.

Moderate to strong winds from the east to northeast will prevail over Luzon. The rest of the country will experience moderate to strong winds coming from the northeast heading northwest. Thus, coastal waters all over the country will be moderate to rough.

PAGASA also warned that intense summer heat ranging from 35 degrees C to 40 degrees C will be felt in different parts of the country starting next week.
