MANILA, Philippines – Tropical Storm Peipah has maintained its strength as it moves closer to the Philippines, state weather bureau PAGASA said Sunday, April 6.
It is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Sunday afternoon, said PAGASA weather forecaster Manny Mendoza.
Peipah will be codenamed Domeng when it enters PAR.
As of 4am, Peipah was spotted at 1,355 km east of General Santos City (5.5°N 137.4°E).
It is forecast to move west northwest at 20 kph, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.
Should it maintain its current speed, Peipah is expected to hit land in the CARAGA region or Eastern Visayas Tuesday, Mendoza said.
According to Weather Philippines, the system is expected to reach the eastern coast of Surigao and Dinagat Provinces by Wednesday morning, April 9.
Cold-front in Cagayan Valley
Meanwhile, gloomy weather can be expected in most part of the country.
In its 24-hour weather bulletin, PAGASA said the tail-end of a cold-front is affecting weather in extreme Northern Luzon.
Cagayan Valley will have cloudy skies and scattered light rainshowers and isolated thunderstorms.
The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.
